Hillary for America - Pennsylvania - Deputy Digital Director
Every four years, my parents let me stay up late with them to watch “the maps” on CNN. I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t enthralled with politics. My mom recalls my construction paper campaign signs posted to our windows and looking outside to see my brother and I chanting, “Go Gore, Trim that Bush.”
Hillary Clinton has always been my hero: She’s strong in her convictions, empathetic, ambitious, incredibly intelligent. I wanted to be her, and naturally, I wanted to join her campaign to elect her as first woman president.
In June 2016, I joined the Hillary for America campaign as Deputy Digital Director for Pennsylvania. Upon arriving in my new city of Philadelphia, now one of my favorites, I was thrown into a whirlwind of coalition building, the DNC convention, project management, organizing, rallies and campaign events, storytelling and occasionally, driving around incredible changemakers.
As Deputy Digital Director for Hillary for America's team in Pennsylvania, I produced audio, video, written and social content to encourage voter registration and support for Hillary Clinton. I traveled to diverse geographic areas of Pennsylvania, interviewed elected officials, delegates, local activists and supporters who give Pennsylvania its character. I delegated tasks to digital associates and interns.
Hillary for Pennsylvania Delegate Stories
A series of stories about Pennsylvania’s convention delegates. I produced stories for over 12 delegates through the phone and in-person interviews. Two of my favorite stories include Malcolm Kenyatta from North Philadelphia and Austin Davis from Pittsburgh. Since the election, Malcolm ran and won his primary election for State Representative and Austin currently serves as a Representative for his district.
Hillary for PA Video Stories
I worked with our state’s filmmaker Diana Bowen to produce video stories about Hillary for Pennsylvania delegates, supporters and organizers. I researched and identified video subjects, conducted preliminary interviews, researched B-Roll filming locations and carried out in-person interviews with our subjects in their homes, communities and at events. Our subjects included: Malcolm Kenyatta, Grace McGregor-Kramer, Martin O’Malley, Frances Chapman, John Fetterman and more.
Podcasts
I recorded and edited podcast episodes centered around events and Hillary for PA supporters. While producing the supporter stories, I focused on why there was so much at stake for electing Hillary. I let the supporters explain for themselves why they needed Hillary to be president: to help with the opioid crisis, to protect LGBTQ Americans, to protect DACA and immigrants in our country. These issues and stories are more pertinent and powerful than ever.
